How licensing works

If you have never licensed a pattern before, this is the whole process. Most brands are through it in a couple of weeks.

01

Tell us about the line

Send the form below. We want to know the brand, the product categories, and roughly when you would want to be in production.

02

See the full set

We send the colorway set and a one-page summary. If you want a mockup on one of your own products before you decide, ask — we will make one.

03

Non-disclosure agreement

A short mutual non-disclosure agreement (NDA), signed online in about a minute. There is no cost for this step.

04

Agreement and artwork

You sign the licensing agreement, payment clears, and the production artwork files go out within one business day.

Seven colorways

One pattern architecture, drawn seven ways for different environments. Shown here in application. The production artwork is released after a license is signed.

Transitional colorway shown in application

Transitional

Annual licensing rights

Flat annual amounts. Non-exclusive by default, which is what keeps the number where it is. Pick how many colorways you want to run.

What you get, and what we ask

Included in a license

  • Production artwork files for your licensed colorways
  • The right to apply the pattern across your product line, within the categories named in the agreement
  • Direct access to the designer for colorway and scale questions
  • Use of the protected pattern name in your product copy
  • Artwork delivered within one business day of payment clearing

What we ask

  • The license covers usage of the pattern, not ownership of it
  • Artwork stays inside your organization and your named manufacturers
  • Categories and territory are named in the agreement
  • Renewal is annual, and you are free to walk at the end of a term
  • No sublicensing without written consent

The protection behind it

This matters more than it sounds. A pattern anyone can copy is worth nothing to the brand running it. These filings are what make it defensible, and the license is the route to using it.
